I’m still dreaming of this Waimanalo Beach wedding. Jennifer and James live in Las Vegas and we were connected to them through some portrait clients we’ve been shooting with for years. Originally, they were going to get married in Las Vegas with lots of friends and family, but decided that something small and simple on the beach in Hawaii was more their style. We were SO EXCITED when Jenn called to tell us. We had both only been to Hawaii once (to shoot a wedding a few years ago) and we LOVED it. That time, we only stayed a couple days- we still had kids at home. THIS TIME we knew better and booked a week at a great little VRBO in Honolulu. Once they booked us, it seriously seemed like it took the wedding day FOREVER to come…. looking forward to the trip, we felt like little kids waiting for Christmas.
When the wedding day finally came, it was perfect. All we thought it would be. The weather, the Hawaiian views, the people that were able to attend the wedding- all of it. The ceremony was on Waimanalo Beach. If you’ve been to Oahu and you’ve seen the shores of that area, you remember it for sure. The sand is so light and beautiful and the water is so bright and inviting. A scene that you might imagine (or hope) you’ll see in Heaven.
The ceremony was very sweet and gave everyone some emotional moments. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that it felt very surreal because it was SO BEAUTIFUL. Everyone was kind of pinching themselves. Watching Jenn’s father give her away while he (not so effectively) held back tears had everyone holding back tears of their own. Jenn’s children were the best man and maid of honor, and Jenn and James presented them with gifts. The smiles and hugs that came from those kids were PRICELESS. I know all 4 of them will always remember those moments.
Following the ceremony we were able to do some portraits in the nearby tree forests as well as on the Beach. We headed down the coast to head back to Honolulu for the reception and on the way we stopped at another beach that was not so calm and serene but just as amazing in its’ own right (thanks for the suggestions Oahu Wedding Planners!). Jenn & James were awesome to shoot with because both of them were seriously beaming with love and excitement about what had just happened. <3
The reception started just after sunset and it was at the Coconut Club in the Aston Hotel in Honolulu. Everything was set up on the balcony which boasted a stunning view of the City’s shoreline. I’ll be the first to say that I love big weddings with all the frill and lots of people…. but THIS wedding was every bit as wonderful. Seeing these two spend the day with just 18 of their closest friends and family members in such an AMAZING place was enough to make me try and convince everyone to do something like this!
Thank you, Jenn & James for choosing us. May these images help you remember the way you felt on that day more clearly and for a lifetime. <3 S&D
