For us, shooting this Urban Downtown Sacramento wedding was like a little dream come true. Back when I started my career as a professional portrait photographer, one of my FAVORITE things to do was photograph children in the downtown environments- with all the urban textures and colors. I loved the way the softness of their skin was highlighted by the roughness of the surroundings. When Heather and Phil told us that they were getting married in Downtown Sacramento and that they wanted to incorporate all of the eclectic elements of the area, I’m pretty sure they could tell that I was jumping up and down on the inside. Scott looked over with a knowing glance when they mentioned old brick and graffiti. Though most of our work doesn’t represent these types of environments these days, it doesn’t mean we don’t LOVE something a little bit outside of the normal, especially when it has a nod to my roots <3. So fun!
Heather and Phil are just right for each other. What I mean by that is this: They get each other. They aren’t the same– but they love and accept each other for who they are. They balance each other. It seems that instead of pushing against each other’s differences, it’s almost as if they are truly grateful for that balance that comes from the other. They compromise well. That’s something that doesn’t often come until many years of marriage and reflection.
They were married at Studio 817 right in the heart of downtown. It’s a beautiful brick constructed space, all painted white inside (another favorite thing of mine- WHITE!). The area surrounding the venue has so many fun spots to shoot in. We mixed it up with a little graffiti, a little bit of Old Warehouse, and some of the Governor’s Mansion which is RIGHT across the street. How cool is that?!
Heather & Phil, thanks for letting us be part of your day! And Heather, thanks for loving those shoes as much as I do. 😉
